History of Rasogolla traced in Book ‘Rasogolla, Banglar Jagat Matano Abishkar’
To end the debate between the two states West Bengal and Orissa over the ownership of the origin of the sweet Rasogolla, a book titled Rasogolla, Banglar Jagat Matano Abishkar was recently released. The book launch was done in the august presence of writer Haripado Bhowmik, Dr. Sashi panja, Hon’ble Minister of Child Development, Women Development and Social Welfare, Retired Hon’ble Justice Mr. Shyamal Kumar Sen of Allahabad High Court and Dr. Barin Roy.
The book Rasogolla, Banglar Jagat Matano Abishkar reveals the age old history of the sweet Rasogolla along with its biblical and geographical links. The book also indicates that Rasogolla had its origins in Bengal. It also brings to light the fact that the cottage cheese based Sponge Rasogolla was invented in Calcutta in 1868 by Nabin Chanda Das whose son Krishna Chandra Das later founded the sweet meat chain K. C. Das.
“I have travelled extensively through West Bengal and Orissa and studied historic books like Amarkosh, Pakrajeshwar to corroborate this research. And what I have found out is that the claim that Rasogolla had its origin in Orissa does not have any proof. It is just a myth. The people reading the book will be able to understand that what I have written has solid proof and is not based on myths” said writer Haripado Bhowmik.
The book is published by Gangchil publishing house and is readily available at all leading book stores.
