Kolkata Durga Puja Theme for Bhowanipur 75 Palli Sarbojonin Durgotsav is Tagore’s Juto Abishkar

After the success of “Neel Sadae Ek Tukro Bhawanipur” followed by “Maa-Er Anchol Sharod Shure, Dekhte Ashun Bhawanipur-E” and “O amar Desher Maati (Oh, the land of my country) with Ponchasey Pochattor” Bhowanipur 75 Palli Sarbojonin Durgotsav is celebrating its 51st year with much fervor. The theme for this year’s Durga puja is Juta Abishkar composed by Rabindranath Tagore. Bhowanipur 75 Palli promotes the youth and this year, two brothers named Bappa Nag & Biltu Nag have been chosen as artists to showcase their skill.

The play JUTA ABISHKAR is based on a humorous poem composed by Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore. Once upon a time in a kingdom of Raja Gobu Chandra, the king wakes up in the morning with a freaky thought that why should his feet be earthed with the dust of his own kingdom where he is the ruler. He orders his Prime Minister Hobu Chandra and all counsels to solve the problem. The puzzled counsels do not come up with any practical solutions. The king is heartbroken at not getting a way out and curses his counsels by threat of death sentence. The Pandits and Mantris execute a plan to sweep out the dust from the kingdom with several lakh brooms but the effort goes all in vain. Then the ministers go to the extent of proposing to cover the entire earth with Chattai and leather. At the very end an uneducated Cobbler saves the situation by covering the King’s feet with leather and thus shoes were invented and brought into use.

With such a theme and two young minds in charge of the decoration, the people can surely expect something out of the box from this Durga Puja Committee.
