Lyrical Band “Mahul” – the pioneer in the concept of performing musical poetry completed 10 years of its musical journey. Their belief in recitation as a form of art has made them a name in the “Band Culture” of the city. The band celebrated it’s ten years by releasing an audio CD in the presence of Alokananda Roy, Soumitra Roy, Banashree Sengupta at Rotary Sadan.
Inspired by the radical creations of Tagore and Kazi Nazrul, Mahul released its first album on the works of the bards titled “Robi Baul O Bidrohi Kobir Kobitai Mahul”, simultaneously from Kolkata and Dhaka under the banner of Girona Entertainment, Kolkata. The CD contains tracks like Amar E Ghore, Akash Bhora Surjo Tara, Bipode More Rokkha Karo, Sonar Tori, Kandari Hushiyar altogether ten tracks. It has been priced at Rs 150/-.
Shanoli Majumder, the founder member of the band said,” Mahul is a lyrical band which started in 2005 pioneering the concept of performing poetry. We perform as live band accompanied with musical instruments like Guitar, Keyboard, Drums and Acoustic Rhythm. We enunciate poetry from classical to contemporary era, using folklores, as well as Indian classical notes with supporting back vocals and vocal harmony. Sound design is separately done for each poem, keeping in mind the rhythm and the mood of the poem, which enriches the composition and offers the audience the experience of visual poetry.”
Mahul performed Shudhu Kobitar Jonyo (Sunil Ganguly), Nirjhorer Swapno Bhanga (Rabindranath), Eki Brinte Duti Kusum ( Nazrul ), Amader Chhoto Nodi ( Rabindranath ), Palkir Gaan ( Satyendranath Dutta ), Durgam Giri ( Nazrul ).
