New Srijit Mukherji Film Rajkahini Press Conference
The press conference of Rajkahini took place recently in the august presence of director Srijit Mukherji and the huge star cast of the upcoming Bengali film. Srijato and Indraadip Dasgupta who were in charge of the songs and the music of the film were also present at the press conference.
Rajkahini is the story with the backdrop of the Partition of Bengal. The partition line goes through the middle of a brothel house and how the inmates of the house react to this is what the film all about. “Like I said earlier, the film is a celebration of women power. Ma Durga is coming home and what better time to release this film” said director Srijit Mukherji.
Abir Chatterjee who plays the role of Master in the film is a teacher by profession and is also involved in the freedom movement. “I cannot divulge much about the character at this juncture. I have been strictly asked by my director to keep my mouth shut. What I can tell you is that this character, despite having the name of Master does not have any resemblance with Masterda Surya Sen. This is one such character which was very common during those times- white dhoti, moustache and the white Punjabi”.
Nigel Akara plays the role of a Pathan in the film. “It is a privilege to work with Srijit Mukherji in my short career of three years. When I did Muktodhara, I harbored the wish of working with him. Rajkahini will be a landmark for Bengali films as well as for Indian cinema too” said the actor. The actor also revealed that he had to grow his hair, beard for the role of the Pathan. “To look authentic in the Pathani suit, I had also to gain weight. My weight was 105 kilograms during the shoot. I also worked on my accent too. The audiences will see a lot of spark in the character” added the actor.
Ridhima Ghosh who looked beautiful in a check kurti said “I play the role of Fatima in the film. When I was contacted by Srijit da for the role, he said that my character does not have any dialogues in the film. She is in a trauma and hence she does not speak. Enacting this character was a huge challenge as this character is the exact opposite of what I am in my real life. This character made me depressed too” said the actress.
Parno Mitra stressed on the fact that the freedom that the people in India have now is due to the hardships and the sacrifices that the freedom fighters have undergone before. “Or else we would not have been able to take selfies or post status on the various social media sites freely. The film must be watched as one will understand the hardships those individuals had to bear” said the actress.
The film is eyeing for release on the 16th of October.
