When Pele came to Kolkata in 1977, there was much frenzy among the football loving Bengalis. To find that same craze among the Bengalis even after the footballer has retired is proof of the love for the game that the people of Bengal have. Brazilian footballer Pele was in Kolkata recently for a three day tour.
The footballer received a standing ovation at Netaji Indoor stadium where he was engaged in an interactive conversation with Sourav Ganguly. The footballer next went to address the media at a reputed city hotel where the excited journalists’ cameras never stopped clicking. Such is the frenzy of this 74 year old footballer among the people even after so many years!!
Pele was also the Guest of Honour in Athletico De Kolkata’s first home watch which they won against Kerala Blasters FC.
The ace footballer also went to Chetla Agrani club and launched the marquee of the club. He was found silently observing the idol despite all the mad rush and clamor around him.
Pele’s visit to Kolkata was the icing on the cake for the football crazy Bengalis during this festive season.
