Director Hrishikesh Mondal whose earlier film was on LGBT community titled “Achena Bondhutto” is back again yet with another film. The new venture of this young director is Kushumitar Gappo which is based on a real life story of a woman football player. The press conference to announce the film was held in the august presence of Madhabi Mukherjee, Ena Saha, Shanta Chakraborty, Sidhu, footballer Shilton Paul and others.
Kushumitar Gappo is about a girl named Kushumita Das who lives in a remote village in Sunderbans. She hails from a poor family. Her father wanted her to become a good footballer but her mother was against her playing this game. However she continued playing the game and gained recognition. She gets the chance to play in Santosh Trophy. However she hurts herself and doctors advise that she will have to undergo an operation. No one comes forward to help this talented footballer. Her father arranges for loan and arranges for the operation. She is given a not so good place in the hospital. However a minister charged on corruption charges gets great attention at the hospital. A journalist however unearths the situation of Kushumita and writes an article about her. What happens next?
“I had approached many stars for the lead role of Kushumita but many declined stating that having Shilton as the hero will not make the film a hit. Many rejected it because this is a sports film. Then I approached Ena who accepted my offer and she is working very hard to play Kushumita onscreen. I have been always interested in offbeat subjects and hence I selected this subject for my second film” said director Hrishikesh Mondal.
The main concept and story of the film is by Shanta Chakraborty. The music of the film will be composed by Sidhu, who had worked earlier with the director in Achena Bondhutto. The song “Shob khelr shera Bangalir tumi football” will be recreated for this film by the music director.
Ena Saha who will enact the role of Kushumita said “Though I may look cute and demure, this will be a good challenge for me as an actress to portray such a tough character. I am working hard on the character. Hope I am able to live up to the expectations”.
Soumitra Chatterjee will be seen in the role of a senior sports reporter while Madhabi Mukherjee will play the role of his wife. Shilton Paul, Captain of Mohun Bagan team will be making his acting debut with this film. He will play his own self in the film. Kharaj Mukherjee and Manashi Sinha will be seen playing the role of Kushumita’s father and mother respectively.
Shooting will be done in various parts of the city and also in different playgrounds where the football sequences will be shot. Even a part of the shoot will be done in Sunderbans, the place from where Kushumita belongs.
The film will go on floors in January.
