Sholoana Bangaliana Hall of Fame:
Two Non-actors who left us speechless with their performance. Dulal Sarkar and Deblina Roy made us proud in the international film circuit and we salute them for their perseverance and dedication to the art.
Top 5 Actors of 2015:
An actor who can give the young guns a run for their money even at 80! Soumitra Chatterjee not only won hearts with Belaseshe and the short film Ahalya but also took a step further in establishing his brand as the one man acting school.
His very presence in the cast list makes the Bengali film lovers hopeful of a good and entertaining film and he never disappoints. Saswata has never stepped back when it comes to experimenting and he pulls off each character in style, as he did in Ebar Shobor, Natoker Moton, Byomkesh Bakshi (Kohen Kobi Kalidas) and Rajkahini. His comfort level with all kinds of characters, lead, semi-lead or anti-lead strikes a great connect with the audience.
An actor who assures that the Bengali Film industry has a bright future, Riddhi Sen enthralled the audience with his portrayal of Phoara. Riddhi’s dedication and love for the art evidently shows in his effortless acting and we are proud of his international presence.
Tough job effortlessly executed! Giving Byomkesh a new dimension and a new face was no easy task but Jisshu did not falter and successfully led the film Byomkesh Bakshi to become a box office hit. Be it the sporty and suave Byomkesh or the crude Ishwar or the debauched film maker in Room No. 103 or the stylish gangster in Rajkahini, Jisshu never failed to pleasantly surprise his fans.
2015 has been the ‘Come Back Year’ for this extremely talented and versatile character actor. His comic timing in Kathmandu and emotional performance in Rajkahini was highly appreciated by one and all.
Special Mention: Deepankar De for his mega comeback in Sesh Anka and Anjan Dutt for his unbelievable act in Nirbaak also deserve special mention.
The Top 5 Actresses who won hearts in 2015:
She knows her craft a tad too well and that was evident in Belaseshe. With mentors like her to guide and look up to, the young generation of the Bengali film industry is surely in safe hands. Be it with the maestro Satyajit Ray, in the 80’s or the dynamic director duo of today, the actress surely knows how to breathe life into her characters. Saying that she is Bengal’s Meryl Streep wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Be it the feisty prostitute in Rajkahini or the vulnerable drug addict in Sesh Anka or the independent urban woman in Bheetu, Parno Mitra dares to be different and hard hitting.
Konkona Sen Sharma
With her subtle charms and grace, Konkona shines bright in every film that she is cast in. Her presence is strongly felt and her charisma made both Sajarur Kanta and Kadambari super successful.
As the bold Begum Jaan in Rajkahini or the emotionally confused daughter of the Majumdar family, Rituparna Sengupta proved yet again that she is one actress that the Bengali film industry can always count on.
This National award winner never fails to surprise her audience. Year 2016 saw her coming back with more power and substance in her performances as the mom who is also a prostitute in Rjkahini and the physically challenged yet strong willed sister in Bheetu.
Special Mention: Actress Priyanka Banerjee Sarkar also made a mark with films like Room No. 103, Rajkahini and Abby Sen. Actress Paoli Dam also drew loud cheers for her wonderful performance as the late stage actress Keya Sengupta in Natoker Moton.
