Calendar on Music Maestro Salil Chowdhury Launched
Late music director Salil Chowdhury was the first individual who took Indian music to the global music forum. He carried the tradition of Bengali music on his able shoulders. To mark his 90th birth anniversary, a special calendar and website was launched recently. The event saw the presence of his daughter Antara Chowdhury, wife Sabita Chowdhury, Rituparna Sengupta, Joy Sarkar, Srikanto Acharya, Srijato, Rocket Mondal and Rupak Saha of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers.
The calendar consists of pictures handpicked by Late Salil Chowdhury’s wife Sabita Chowdhury. The pictures show the music director working with the stalwarts of the music industry.
The website which was launched at the same occasion will be a like a guide to the life and works of Salil Chowdhury. Speaking about the website, daughter Antara Chowdhury said “My father was a great musician and I am so proud of him. It is my duty to preserve his line of music and also spread it among the young generation. His music composing style or his works will be a good inspiration for the young musicians in the near future”.
Rupak Saha of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers said “I am proud that my company had the privilege of associating with this project. We have always tried our best to go beyond the four walls of the show room. Preserving the culture and heritage in this way will be a good option to serve the society too”.
Music composer Joy Sarkar who described the late music director as his God agreed to help The Salil Chowdhury Foundation of Music in whatever way he can. “I have grown up listening to his songs. With increasing age, I have been able to understand bits and pieces of the marvels that he created. It will take more than one lifetime to actually understand what a great composer he was” said the music composer.
“It is very difficult to state which song I like most. I like all his songs actually. He was a rare mortal. He created history with his works and generations will benefit by doing research on his works” said actress Rituparna Sengupta.
In the near future concerts will be held in various parts of the country and abroad to propagate the music among the younger generations and make them aware of their musical heritage.
