Video: Jai Gangajal Promotions in Kolkata
Ace director Prakash Jha along with actor Manav Kaul was present in Kolkata for the promotion of their upcoming Bollywood film Jai Gangaajal.
Jai Gangaajal is not the sequel to the 2004 film by Jha titled Gangaajal which was based loosely on the Bhagalpur Blindings. “This is a new story with new problems. Nothing is the same. This story deals with the society’s relationship with police in changing India and also with issues like land grabbing and suicide of the farmers”, said Prakash Jha.
The director also added that he always starts the promotions of his films from Kolkata. “Be it Damul or Aarakshan, I have always started the promotions from this city. My teachers and my inspirations are from this city. Hence, I love coming to this city” said the ace director.
On being questioned about the choice of the lead actress, the director said “Priyanka is a powerful actress and she has the fitness required to play SP Abha Mathur. I could not think of someone else for this role”.
Manav Kaul plays the role of the local MLA of Bankipur. “I do not know how Prakash sir saw the wicked side of me. Jokes apart, I did have a great time shooting with him. We had one and a half month session about how I will play this role. Hence, during shooting we never discussed anything about the character portrayal. We simply performed” said actor Manav Kaul.
Prakash Jha has not only written and directed the film but will also be seen playing the role of Bhola Nath Singh in this film. “My character has compromised with the system. He wants to keep everyone happy to sustain in the system. He undergoes a change when Priyanka’s character instills the pride of Khaki in him. You may ask why I became an actor. This is solely for my audience. Otherwise I am constantly acting for myself in life’s journey” said the National Award winning director.
The film is set for release on the 4th of March.
