Jai Gangajal Director Prakash Jha at a Discussion
Prakash Jha whose films like Gangaajal, Arakhshaan showcased various social issues and problems, is back yet again with a new film titled Jai Gangaajal. At a discussion held at ILEAD, the director was engaged in an interesting conversation on the challenges faced by women cops in our society.
The discussion also saw the presence of Manav Kaul, Sudeshna Roy, Pradip Chopra (Chairman, ILEAD College of Media and Management Studies), Debasree Chatterjee (Deputy Commissioner of Police).
Speaking at the occasion, Prakash Jha said “My films are a reflection of the times we live in. I am not trying to preach. But I am simply trying to showcase facts as they actually are. You will never find any person in our country approaching any police personnel for their troubles. They stay miles away from them. Hence, you can very well understand the kind of rapport that the people have with the police. This needs to be changed for a better society”.
The director also said “You can understand the status of women when I will give an example from my film. In the film Abha Mathur, the character played by Priyanka Chopra is brought to that area because she is a woman cop and the men think that they will be able to control her. But contrary to their expectations, she is a tough nut to crack”.
With hopes of a better society where the women cops will not have to face much hurdles in their jobs, the session ended with the director reminding everyone of the film’s release on 4th of March.
