The Heritage Walk was inaugurated at 40th International Book Fair in the august presence of Mir, veteran Bengali author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Sudhangshu Dey (Director, Publishers and Booksellers Guild) and others at Milan Mela. Students from St. James’ School also participated in this heritage Walk along with the dignitaries.
A glorious walk was scheduled around a specific path with eighteen installations. The installations depicted significant and important events that took place in the thirty nine years of the Book Fair.
Some of the installations include Coffee House (1975 place where the Guild was formed), First Kolkata Book fair inaugurated by A. L Dais (1976), Expiry of Ashok Kr Sarkar at the stage of Book fair (1983), Visit of Koutchoumow, International recognition of the Book Fair (1983), Assam, first Focal theme of Book fair (1991), France first international theme of Book Fair (1997), Fire in the Book Fair (1997), Change of Calcutta Book Fair to Kolkata Book Fair (2002), Gunter Grass visited Book Fair (2005), Last Book Fair in Maidan (2006), International Book fair in Saltlake Stadium (2007), Book Fair at Milan Mela (2009), writer Dominique Lappiere in Book Fair (2009) and others.
The aim of this Heritage Walk was to rebuild the connection of the young generation and the Book Fair and several activities with children from various schools were planned to drive engagement.
