After having carved a niche for her with her modeling assignments, she has also found foothold in both Bengali and Hindi films with her strong acting capabilities. The actress who last featured in Kagojer Nouka (Bengali film) and Gun pe Done (Hindi film) is back with her latest film Sangabora. The actress was in Kolkata for the poster launch of the film. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with the pretty actress. Excerpts from the conversation..
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- Can you tell us something about the character that you play in Sangabora?
Bidita Bag- Well, I play the role of the editor in the film. The documentaries that I make are edited by Anirban da (played by Priyangshu Chatterjee). We both work together. Anirban da worked in a documentary on a fictitious tribe named Tunga tribe. He even shows my character in the film the footages from that documentary. But he suddenly goes missing. I become tensed and I try to contact him. I land up with some clues and I start on my voyage to track him down. This takes me to Gujarat. To know whether I can actually find him or not, you will have to watch the film.
Heroines in mainstream Bengali films usually do not have much to do apart from look good. But this is an adventure film and you play the role of an editor. Any special regime you followed to gear yourself up for this role?
Bidita Bag- Yes, this was a different role. I had to learn some difficult terms. However my training of Final, Cut, Pro (FCP) have come in handy. Though I did not lend a hand in the editing of the film, I could at least emote well. Sampurna plays the role of a linguistic and she had to learn many difficult terms. Apart from this we also had great exercises due to the jumping and running we had to do during the shoot of the film. I am quite happy with this role, I must say!!
I heard you had to shoot in places like Gujarat, Kolkata, Vizag. This means you travelled a lot. Tell us something about the shooting experience.
Bidita Bag- Well, I had a great time and yes it was hectic too. We had to travel a lot. Often we had to travel for twelve to fourteen hours. But we made it up by having fun on the sets. The team we had was very cordial and we had a great time therefore. Kharaj da used to make us laugh so much that we have developed six pack abs by simply laughing our heart out. Samadarshi and I have worked before, so we share a healthy relationship. As for Sampurna and me, we used to bitch about the other actors (laughs out loud). I remember Samadarshi used to roll on the floor laughing after the director said Cut after a particular scene.
What are your expectations from a film which is touted as an adventure film?
Bidita Bag- Yes, I am hopeful that the film will do well and the audience will receive it well. Adventure is a genre which has not been tried before in Bengali films. A lot of VFX effects, a lot of travelling have to be done to make the film look good on screen. We have given in a lot of effort and hats off to the director for showing the guts to make a film in this genre.
Apart from Sangabora, what are the other projects that are keeping you engaged at the moment?
Bidita Bag- Apart from Sangabora, I did Teen Anko (which released the year before) and the last film by Bappaditya Bandopadhyay which also had Harsh Chhaya in lead role. I had done a film with Jimmy Shergill titled Gun Pe Done and also a film named Rabbi. Touch wood I have a lot of films lined up for release!!
Wishing the young and talented actress The Very Best for her latest films and also for her future endeavors!!
