Starmark, in association with Random House India, hosted the launch of young journalist Nidhi Dugar Kundalia’s THE LOST GENERATION – CHRONICLING INDIA’S DYING PROFESSIONS at its Quest Mall outlet. The Chief Guest at the launch was the acclaimed film director and cinematographer Goutam Ghose.
A Haridwar pandit who maintains genealogical records of families for centuries, a professional mourner who has mastered the art of fake tears, a letter writer who overlooks the lies that a sex worker makes him write to her family back home are some of the profession which can still be found in India.
In The Lost Generation, Nidhi Dugar Kundalia is the tale of the unforgettable stories of twelve individual professionals-from the hauntingly beautiful rudaalis to the bizarre tasks of a street dentist. The writings uncover the romance, tragedy and old-world charm of India’s ageing streets and its incredible living history.
After the book release was done by the Chief Guest, excerpts from the book were read by Katy Roy and Sumit Roy of Kolkata’s well-known theatre group, Red Curtain.
