The second and third position was given to Narendranath Barik and Sourobhi Kundu respectively.
Speaking at the event, Prosenjit Chatterjee said “I am a part of a film like Sankhachil and that gives me immense pleasure. We make films for entertainment. However, there are different layers to a film. Gautam da’s films have something more than entertainment too. The film’s name will be etched in the pages of history. It is important to know the history and students are the future of our country. They must be well aware of it. Dreams never end and hence what we could not achieve our next generations will achieve”.
The film Sankhachil recently bagged the National award for Best Bengali Film. It is the story of Muntasir Badal Choudhury who lives in Bangladesh and is a teacher by profession. His family consists of his wife Laila and daughter Rupsha. The barbwire which was a mere part of their geography causes trauma in their lives. What happens to the family is what the film all about.
Gautam Ghose, director of Sankhachil said “It is really absurd to even think that one can divide a country based solely on religion. Even today more Muslims live in India than in Pakistan. However the damage has been done and the effects are what we are still handling. Sankhachil is a story of today’s time”.
The film Sankhachil releases on 14th April.
