Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand Felicitated with P. C. Chandra Puraskaar; Alka Yagnik Peps up the Event with her Songs

Chess Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand was awarded with the P. C. Chandra Puraskaar at an event held at Science City auditorium. Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi was the Chief Guest on the occasion and presented the award.


Introduced in the year 1993, the P. C. Chandra Puraskaar has been awarded to eminent personalities like Manna De, Sourav Ganguly, Hema Malini, Sunil Gavaskar, Mrinal Sen, Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb, Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, P. T. Usha and others. The Puraskaar is given on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the founder of this group, Shri Purna Chandra Chandra.


Merit scholarships were awarded to the children of the employees and long service award was given to veteran employees for their service to the company for so many years.

Singer Alka Yagnik regaled the audience after the award ceremony was over with her mellifluous voice. She sang a medley of her popular songs at the event. Speaking at the occasion, the singer said “It is always a pleasure to come back to Kolkata. I used to stay here before I went to Mumbai to pursue my career. Performing in Kolkata gives me immense pleasure”.


The 24th P. C. Chandra Puraskaar ceremony was therefore high on entertainment and kept the audiences mesmerized.
