Multiple National Award winner and critically acclaimed director Kaushik Ganguly is back with his latest offering “Cinemawala”, which is a farewell to celluloid. Set against a backdrop of celluloid cinema, it is a tale of a father-son’s strained relationship. With “Cinemawala” Ganguly pays his tribute to the vanishing craft which has inspired countless generations to imagine and dream beyond the mere mundane existence.
Pranabendu Das is a retired film exhibitor from a small-town in West Bengal. He owns a movie theatre ‘Kamalini’ named after his separated wife. With the advancement of technology and the arrival of the digital medium, this man was compelled to let go of his theatre which projected films only on celluloid. Prakash is unperturbed by his father, Pranab’s condition. He is an opportunist, who would never give morality a chance while making himself an established businessman. This is a father-son relationship tale weaved through the beautiful backdrop of cinema.
“Cinemawala” has been honored with the prestigious UNESCO-Fellini award at IFFI 2015. It has been selected to be showcased at various national and international films festivals including New York Indian Film Festival, 2016, Hidden Gems Film Festival, Calgary, 2016, Chennai International Film Festival- (CIFF), Pune International Film Festival, Indian Panorama Film Festival – Delhi, IFFK – Kerala and Bangalore International Film Festival.
The screenplay and dialogues is by Kaushik Ganguly. The DOP is Soumik Halder while the music has been composed by Indraadip Dasgupta. The editor is Subhojit Singha while the art director is Dhannjoy Mondol. Paran Bandopadhayay, Parambrata Chatterjee, Arun Guha Thakurta, Sohini Sarkar, Lama Halder will be seen in important roles in this film produced by Shree Venkatesh Films.
