Indian popular music scene has produced many remarkable composers who gave our music an identity with their creative excellence. Be it melody, meaningful lyrics, soothing orchestration and powerful singing all made many songs ageless. Chandrima Bhattacharya, a musically blessed singer from Assam paid an homage to a few notable Indian popular music composers in a different way at a cultural evening titled Parampara and Beyond at G.D.Birla Savaghar. It was a Ragranjani Media and Entertainment Presentation.
Be it composers from Bengal or of national importance, the evening was meant for those unsung heroes of popular music. Composers like S.D.Burman, Hemanta Mukherjee, Madan Mohan, Salil Chowdhury, R.D.Burman ,Illayaraja, Sudhin Dasgupta, Nachiketa Ghosh all were remembered through the musical. Interestingly, orchestration was youthful maintaining the original melodies.
Renowned elocutionist Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee presented the journey through an abstract love story to make the musical journey more enjoyable and lively.
The music was recreated by Ranendu Mitra where the other musicians were Tatai Dey, Dipayon Ganguly, Sankar Saha, Subhendu Das. Chandrima presented songs like Tum Pukar Lo, Ei Mom Jochhonay, Sagar Dake, Kayi Bar Yunhi, Surmayi Akhion Men, Zindagi Ittefaq Hai, Dil Dhunta Hai, Eri Pawan , Jane Kya Tune Kahi. Sudarshan Chakravorty presented another musical Nrityapalpo with his Sapphire creations Dance Company.
