Director Milan Bhowmik’s Film Danga Shooting in Progress

The shooting for the upcoming Bengali film Danga, directed by Milan Bhowmik was recently taking place at Baruipur Rajbari. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with the actors and the directors on the sets.

Danga (The Riot) is a love story between a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl. They are both college students. The love story progresses in the backdrop of a riot that took place on 16th August 1946 in Calcutta. This was organized by the Muslim League under Jinnah’s command. According to this ploy, the whole of undivided Bengal was to be added to Pakistan. However Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, the then President of Hindu Mahasabha opposed this. He saved the lives of many people and this led to the formation of the state of West Bengal.

Speaking in between shots, the director said “Not many of us are actually aware of this event or the contributions of Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. This will be a good way of knowing about the work that the man did for his country”.

Gajendra Chauhan (Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee), Supriya Devi (as Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee’s mother), Joy Badlani, Sudip Mukherjee, Bijoy Mukherjee, Sanjib Sarkar, Kalyan Chatterjee, Sudesh Kaul, Biswajit Chakraborty and others will be seen in important roles in the film.

The film has been shot in parts of Kolkata, Coochbehar, Jharkhand, Moon City and other places. The music is by Soumitra Kundu and the lyrics have been penned down by Priyo Chatterjee and Gautam Sushmit.

The film Danga is slated for release during Independence Day (15th August).
