Designer Sharbari Dutta and Theatre Artist Dolly Basu at Inauguration of Art Exhibition Prayas 2016



Prayas 2016, a series of twelve 5-day art exhibitions for contemporary artists, will be held at the Chemould Art Gallery, Kolkata from July 3 to September 1, 2016. Organized by Smita Art and Chemould Art Gallery, Prayas 2016 aims at providing a platform to 120 artists, both senior and upcoming, to display their works and share their views and ideas. Ten artists will be taking part in each exhibition, and a senior artist among them playing a pivotal role in their discussions.


Prayas 2016 was inaugurated at the ICCR auditorium by Sri Subrata Mukherjee, the Hon’ble Minister in Charge, Panchayat and Rural Development and Public Health Engineering Department, Government of West Bengal, with the Guests of Honour being eminent artist  Sri Rabin Mondal, renowned fashion designer Sharbari Dutta, and reputed theatre person Dolly Basu. Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on four eminent persons – artists Sri Lalu Prasad Shaw and Smt. Anita Roy Chowdhury, art critic, curator and art historian Sri Pranabranjan Ray, and photographer Sri Nemai Ghosh.


Smita Art and Chemould Art Gallery have organized Prayas 2016, encouraged by the success they had achieved in holding Prayas 2013, Prayas 2014 and Prayas 2015 during the last three years on similar lines.
