Handicapped Development Welfare Association organized the 5th All Bengal Handicapped (Blind and Deaf) Chess Tournament recently. The occasion was graced by Debasish Kumar, Soham, Prasanta Banerjee, Aneek Dhar and others.
The organization was formed by Sawrabh Ghosh and the venture was supported by Behala Blind School. HDWA has initiated its own cricket team which won the East Zone Cricket Tournament of Deaf 2016 organized by the Jharkhand Deaf Cricket Association. Beside that the team participated in a cricket tournament held in Mumbai organized by the Viklang Kalyankari Organization kandivalie(E) in 2016. It has been four years they are into cricket, three years into football and five years into chess competition.
They have dealt with various kinds of activities inducing blood donation camp for the Thalassemia patients in which deaf and blind people also donated blood. They even organized religious festivals as Jagaddhatri Puja in association with the South Kolkata Bodhir Samity at Roy Bahadur Road, Behala for the last three years.
For this chess tournament participants came from Siliguri, Bardhwan, Chandannagar, Asansol, Murshibabad, and Kolkata.
HDWA has Debasish Kumar (MIC), Rituparna Sengupta, Saikat Mitra, Prasanta Banerjee as advisors of the organization while Aneek Dhar as the vice-president.
