Mumbai’s Spandan Powai Durgotsav Theme is Janak Janani Utsav- A Tribute to the Elderly People

With Durga Puja just around the corner, Bengalis not only in Kolkata but also in other parts of the country are also gearing up for the festivities. The Khuti Puja of Spandan Powai Sharadotsav 2016 (Mumbai) took place recently.

The theme of Spandan Powai Durgotsav 2016 is “JANAK JANANI UTSAV”-A tribute to the elderly people. The highlight of the festivity is celebration of old age. It is indeed unfortunate that some are left on their own to spend their days in old age home while others loiter in penury. The elders of our society are none other than our own parents. They made us walk, they made us eat. They were the one who cared for us and they deserve to be treated well in their old age.

The theme encourages one to give a thought, to look and think differently about elders and be more sensitive towards their needs. The Durgotsav raises concern about the status of elderly people in our society. The festival celebrates old age in the most gracious way and giving the elderly people a reason to smile.

SPANDAN Foundation has resolved to support NGOS that are doing remarkable work in the field of elder abuse and old age homes through Sharod utsav!

This is the fourth year of Spandan Powai Sharadotsav. This year the Puja committee has decided to give a platform to the elderly people to showcase their hidden talent such as singing, acting, dancing during the 5 days of celebration. More than 100   senior citizens, coming from different old age homes in Mumbai will join the club members and celebrate Durga Puja. The Durga Idol and the entire decoration of our pandal will showcase the theme too.

With such a noble thought in mind, Spandan Powai Sharadotsav 2016 is surely celebrating the true meaning of festivity by showering love and happiness among the aged individuals!!
