Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent engaged in a telephonic conversation with the ace journalist.

Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- So why is the title of the book Long Island Iced Tea? Many will think that this is a book on making amazing cocktails and mocktails?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee- Well, that is a possibility but I assure you that this has nothing to do with any kind of mocktails or cocktails. Incidentally Long island Iced Tea is my favorite cocktail. The eight ingredients needed are tequila, triple sec, jin, lemon juice, white rum, vodka, gomme syrup and a dash of cola. Wight ingredients make the perfect cocktail and eight stories make my book. One can aptly say that this book is a cocktail of life.

How did this book on fiction happen?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee– Due to the hectic schedules, after writing the coffee book in 2001, I did not get much time to write. But when I was working as a journalist, I had certain breakouts. I wrote them down as short stories and saved them in my desktop. Later I copied them down on a floppy disk. Then took proper print out of the stories!! I had actually forgotten about them. But my wife actually discovered them while cleaning up the house. And this is how the book came into being.

What are the stories about?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee- I will say that the stories showcase my experiences as a human being. The stories deals with relationship issues, sex, modern problems, Bengali film industry and so on. In fact I lost the best short story which was a murder mystery.

Who are the target audience of this book?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee- The target audience is the college students and those individuals who want to read something light on their way to work and so on. The price is also reasonable at Rs 199. This book will be available at different online e-commerce sites as people are now having a hard time with cash. They can buy online too.

Do you have any plans of writing a sequel of this book?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee- Well, I think that if the people like the book and they are happy, my mission is fulfilled. I will then plan on writing a sequel. This is a light read book and I have no wish of being awarded any literary award for this book too.

What will be your next book on?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee- Since there is NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) with the publisher I will not be able to divulge anything about the book. But I will give the hint that it will be a biography.

Wishing Ram Kamal Mukherjee all the best for his foray in the world of fiction writing!!
