Nabaneeta Dev Sen launched the book Unclaimed Harvest: An Oral History of the Tebhaga Women’s Movement by Kavita Punjabi at an event held at the Oxford Bookstore.
The book highlights on the post-famine Bengal in the early forties. It was during this time that the peasants rose against the landlords who exploited them. They began a movement with the help of which they retained two thirds of the crop they harvested. Hence the movement came to be known as Tebhaga Movement.
In the book, Kavita Punjabi highlights on the participation of 50000 women in this movement. She also focuses on the feminist vision of how this movement caused a change in then society.
A panel discussion followed the launch of the book. The discussion was attended by Professor Suranjan Das, Dr. Supriya Chaudhuri, Nabaneeta Dev Sen and the author. The session was moderated by Urvashi Butalia.
