The Newtown School hosted the National School Intensive 2016 of Spic Macay at the school premises. The event was inaugurated in the presence of Sujata Mohapatra, Dushyant Nariala, Dr. L. Subramaniam and other eminent dignitaries.

The main aim of this event is to promote Indian culture among the youth of the country. The week long initiative is held exclusively for the school children. Students from different schools all over India will come to the host school and stay at the week long Gurukul. Within this time span they will be learning many new aspects of Indian culture from the maestros in various fields.

Some of the artists who would be coming to this event to interact with the students include Guru Ghanakanta Bora, Vidushi Subhra Guha, Vidushi Sujata Mahapatra, Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan, Vidushi Ashoka Dhar and many others.

A day at the NSI begins at 4am when students get up and do three hours of Naad Yog and Hath Yog. Following this, a sumptuous breakfast follows. Intensive dance, music and crafts workshop of three hours continue with a Guru every day. The afternoon continues with film screening of classics or folk performances. After dinner, everybody assembles at the hall to watch the performances of two artists. The weekends end with an overnight concert of classical music. Before leaving for their homes, the students go for a Heritage tour of the city.

The event will continue till the 30th of December.
