Video: Session Acts of Faith at TSKLM 2017
A session titled Acts of Faith saw the presence of Javed Akhtar, Shazia Omar, Tabish Khair, Mudar Patherya who discussed on the triple challenges of Islamophobia, stereotypes and radicalization. The panelists were in conversation with Mir Afsar Ali.
Speaking at the occasion, Javed Akhtar said “One of the biggest trouble is the Muslims themselves have mixed ideas about themselves. This has led to many stereotypes in the minds of the other people who mix with them. My brother was once questioned whether Mujras happened at his home in Lucknow by his friends. See this is what I am talking about. These are stereotypes which need to be broken”.
He also added that one must keep in mind the fact that we are different in our own ways. This gives us an identity or else we would have all become clones. “We love our home, our language, our family more than others. This is normal. This bias is what keeps us alive and also making our own identity” added Javed Akhtar.
The session ended with a positive statement by Javed Akhtar who mentioned that an average Hindu or Muslim is not different. No average Muslim wants to commit murder. This is what must be remembered so as to reduce biases.
