Audio Music Album Launch of Bengali Film Devi; A Modern Take on Devdas in Its 100th Year

Video: Music Launch of Bengali Film Devi

“Devi is set in today’s times. Today we speak of women empowerment. So when I was thinking of making a film loosely based on the premise of Devdas, I thought let me add a twist and do a gender reversal. Devdas will be a female character and the characters of Paro and Chandramukhi are male characters namely Protik and Charlie. This is how the concept developed” said director Rick Basu.

The director, along with Savvy, Kuntal, Shataf Figar, Taniya, Paoli Dam and others unveiled the music of the upcoming Bengali film Devi. Rituparna Sengupta was also graced the music launch event.

The year 2017 marks the 100 years of Devdas. “This is the tale of unrequited love. So what it is set in today’s time? Unrequited love in this age or in 2050 will lead to the making of Devdas. I play Charlie in the film which is the male Chandramukhi” said Shataf Figar.

The music of the film has been composed by Savvy and Kuntal. “The five songs are a journey in itself. The song Phirbena was composed eleven years ago. That was a scratch recording. But now Taniya has sung the song in a fantastic way. Arijit is a good friend and he has lent his voice to the song of Chandramukhi/Charlie in the film” said the director.

The shooting of the film has been done in Kolkata and Pattaya.

“The name of the film initially was Paoli. But I felt that it was too narcissist. Hence I asked the director to think of some other name and he came up with Devi which is also the name of the character in the film” said Paoli Dam.

The film is slated for release on 10th February.
