Designer Payal Singhal’s collection called ‘Lady M’ at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 was inspired by Agatha Christie’s dark romantic murder mystery “Death on the Nile”. Bollywood Diva Diana Penty walked the ramp at the collection launch show.
Bringing the high society glam trends of the late 1930’s to the runway, Payal recreated the fringed beaded tunics and jazzy dresses. She also displayed stylish beaded kaftans and jackets teamed with low crotch dhotis and camisoles.
Embellishments were lavish as Art Deco and floral motifs with Indian influences emerged in silver/gold Mukaish and pita work. The peacock feather motif along with the jaal embroidery has been used lavishly for the collection. Scalloped hems were added to pants and bustiers for added ornate work.
The color scheme consisted of deep tones of midnight blue, gunmetal, purple, navy, blush, grey, emerald and black which were complemented with pale rose, ivory and summer blue.
Two saris – one in purple silk with a silk bustier with stone net embellished cape and the other a stylised net/silk, version, she ensured that the ethnic dresser had a formal wear choice. The fabric choice included georgette, tulle, silk and dupion silk.
PayalSinghal’s “Lady M” collection will turn every woman into a femme fatale and drama queen.
