The annual musical extravaganza by Radio Mirchi, the Dabur Red Paste Mirchi Music Awards Bangla Powered by Jio, celebrated the best in Bengali music in 2016. It was attended by eminent celebrities like Rituparna Sengupta, Dev, Anupam Roy, Mimi Chakraborty, Yash Dasgupta, Nachiketa, Rupam and others.
The winners in each category went through a rigorous selection process where a jury comprising thirty-three industry stalwarts voted for the best numbers from the entire pool of approximately 2,000 songs that were released in 2016. Besides the regular awards categories in Film and Non-Film Bangla music, there was also the Mirchi Listeners’ Choice Awards for the Best Film Song and the Best Film Album. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Dr. Anup Ghoshal, while Rituparna Sengupta, was felicitated for completing two decades in the industry.
Male and female vocalist of the year in the adhunik section went to Snigdhadeb Sengupta and Iman Chakraborty. The best composer and lyricist of the year went to Anjan Majumdar for Anuranan.
In the film category, the male and female vocalist of the year went to Shreya Ghoshal and Nachiketa. Lyricist and composer of the year wet to Anupam Roy. The song of the year went to Tumi jake bhalobasho from the film Praktan.
