Video: Session on Sonata Text to Context held at The Tollygunje Club
An interesting session was organized at The Tollygunje Club recently titled Text to Context in Sonata. The event was graced by director Aparna Sen, actresses Lilette Dubey and Shabana Azmi. The eminent celebrities were in conversation with Nandita Palchoudhari.
The film Sonata is an independent English film by ace director Aparna Sen. It showcases the friendship of three women who are unmarried and are facing mid-life crisis. The film is based on a play by Mahesh Elkunchwar.
Speaking at the event, Shabana Azmi said “Tales of friendship of women have not been much showcased in Indian films. This will be a welcome break for the audience. And if there were a man in the middle, the scenario would have undergone some changes. Men are capable of making great friends. But there is something which binds women more together. The film is not about friends and family but also about changing India”.
Lilette Dubey mentioned how many years ago, sisterhood were prominent among women. “Joint families and the system of zananas prove that. The relation that the women had with the husbands was formal. But the women shared everything with their female friends in their family and vicinity” added the actress.
The actors also spoke about the importance of dissent in democracy, freedom of expression and the current generation of actors and their works among other topics.
The film Sonata is eyeing for release on the 21st of April.
