Video: Lokshilpi o Karukriti Mela Inauguration
With nearly sixty artists, crafts persons and weavers from seventeen districts of West Bengal, Lokshilpa o Karukriti Mela was inaugurated at Jorasanko Thakurbari. This is a joint initiative by West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts and Rabindra Bharati University.
The fair was inaugurated by renowned director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee, Siddhartha Ghosh, Secretary, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi as the Chief Guest. Prof Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, Vice Chancellor, Rabindra Bharati University and also Chairman of the State Akademi also graced the event.
The fair has an attractive display of beautiful handicrafts. Patachitras, mats, clay dolls, Chhau dance masks, bamboo crafts, wooden handicrafts, jute crafts, wood carvings, sola crafts, kantha-stith items, batik products, dokra jewellery, Baluchari sarees and other products can be found at the fair.
Some of the crafts persons who are attending the fair include Imran Chitrakar (Pashcim Medinipur), Asitbaran Jana (Paschim Medinipur), Gautam Das (Dakshin 24 Parganas), Lepcha crafts persons (Kalimpong), Urmila das (Birbhum), Shital Faujdar (Bankura) and many others.
The fair will continue till 9th May from 8 am to 8 pm daily.
