Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla, who is also the co-owner of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was present at a sapling planting initiative at Eden Gardens. The actress mentioned that she has decided to use cricket to benefit the environment. For every six that a player hits in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, the actor’s team will plant a tree.
With pollution on the rise everywhere, this is indeed a good way of bettering the condition of the environment, felt the Bollywood actress. Cricket is like religion in India and the next time some cricketer hits a six, your joy will be doubled as the scores will increase and so will the count of trees in the city.
The initiative has got a green signal from the Mayor of Kolkata. So far fifty saplings have been planted and the aim is to plant at least seventy by the end of the season.
