New Techniques to Treat Gastrointestinal Cancers In India



Cancers is on the rise in India. Among all the kinds of cancers affecting the lives of humans, gastrointestinal cancers (GI) consists of a significant percentage. GI cancers are cancers of the food pipe, stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, small intestine, bile duct, colon and rectum. Dr. Sanjoy Mandal addressed the press about this kind of cancer and also ways to combat it.

Stomach and colon cancers are more common in the state while food pipe cancers are mostly common among people in the hill districts.

The treatment for cancers has always been focused around surgery. However the other forms available for treatment are chemotherapy, radiotherapy and now laparoscopy have become extremely popular.

Dr. Mandal highlighted on the fact that laparoscopic surgery for liver and gall bladder cancers are now available. Some specific cancer cases of the anal canal or the rectum, the tumor is removed through the anal canal without any incision.

With such new techniques coming up, people will be able to get rid of the cancers without much trouble.
