The film festival has received films in silent, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, Urdu, Manipuri, English, French, Italian, Irish and other languages.
During the festival period, seventy films will be screened. Out of them, fifty two films are Indian while the remaining eighteen films are foreign films. Among these seventy films selected for the festival, twenty six films have been official selections for competitive sections.
In respect and memory of legendary film personalities Hiralal Sen, Debaki Kumar Bose and B.N. Sircar, three prestigious awards have been introduced this time. The awards were given to Ranjit Mullick, Tarun Majumdar and production and distribution house M/S RBD & Co.
Speaking at the event, Bratya Basu said “People have so less time now. They hardly have the time to watch films with duration of two to three hours. It is due to this reason that there is a growing importance of short films. Even legendary film makers like Satyajit Ray also made short films. Short films are immensely beneficial as one can showcase their talent to the audience even if they do not get financial backups by producers”.
Ranjit Mullick also voiced the same opinion that with less time at their disposal, people are now more inclined to watching short films. Short films is the future, added Mullick.
The festival will continue till 11th June, 2017 at Rotary Sadan.
