Bengal Mango Festival 2017 Inaugurated; Huge Display of Mangoes and Mango Products

West Bengal had a colossal Mango production of 28 lakh metric ton wherein mango exports has increased by 40% as compared to the previous year in 2017. To give the people of the city a taste of the variety of mangoes, the Bengal Mango Festival 2017 was initiated. The Bengal Mango Festival 2017 was inaugurated by Abdur Razzak Mollah and Subrata Mukhopadhyay.


The Bengal Mango Festival 2017 hosted mango producers from several districts of West Bengal like Malda, Nodia, South and North 24 Paraganas,  Murshidabad, Bankura and Hoogly. The 4 day-long event organized by the Department of Food Processing Industries & Horticulture Government of west Bengal and the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Kolkata has over 30 stalls selling both fresh variety of mangoes like Amrapali, Langda, Mallika, Himsagar, Gopalbhog, Lakhanbhog, etc and also a wide variety of processed mango food products.


Speaking at the Bengal Mango Festival 2017, Abdur Razzak Mollah, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Food Processing Industries & Horticulture, Government of West Bengal hailed the ICC for organizing the event. He cited the importance of farmer livelihood based on the fact that India is an agricultural economy. He was happy at the variety of mango produce displayed at the fair especially the rare Kohitur mango from Murshidabad.


Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Department of Panchayat and Rural Development, Government of West Bengal, Mr. Subrata Mukhopadhyay, was a self proclaimed mango addict and urged the department to examine and create procedures to make sure that the mango produced in the state are bacteria free and are off export quality, which will definitely increase exports and help mango producers and poor farmers.


The event also witnessed the inauguration of ‘Hot Water Treatment Facility’ at Pack House Malda by the Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge, Abdur Razzak Mollah and Hon’ble Minister Subrata Mukherjee.
