17th International Children Film Festival From 20th July to 31st October; Dhanak Shown as Inaugural Film

The 17th International Children Film Festival will be held from 20th July to 31st October 2017 in Nandan and Okakura Bhavan, Salt Lake and other places in the state. Presented by Cine Central, Calcutta, the inauguration of the festival was done in the august presence of H.E Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal, Yadab Mondal, Nagesh Kukunoor, Ayesha Sinha (Executive Director, Talash), Hon’ble Justice Shri Shyamal Kumar Sen (President, Cine Central Calcutta) and others.


Some of the participating countries are Bangladesh, Denmark, India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Germany, Mexico, Mongolia, USA, Vietnam, Turkey and others. Forty six films from eighteen countries will be screened at the festival.


The main aim of the festival is to give the children enjoyment and education with the help of films.


The inaugural film at the festival was Dhanak, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. Speaking at the occasion, the director said “Film festivals for children are not organized much in India. This is a great initiative for the children as they will be able to see good films from all over the world”.


Some of the other films that will be shown at the festival include Sparrow Spring, Hotchpotch, The Play Fellow, Cinema Dream, Dakghar, Father, Lesson of a Dream, Anina, Super 8, The Way Home, Raining Cats and Frogs, The Machine, Tony 10, The Little Mermaid and others.


The festival will continue at Nandan 2 from 1st August to 4th August at 3 pm and 5 pm. A small exhibition at Nandan 4 at 3 pm and 7 pm from 1st August to 4th August 2017 will also be held.
