Book Review: Solitude Revisited By Manaswita Ghosh

With the attention span of people in today’s times reducing, it is indeed a challenge for the authors to keep them hooked to their works- be it poetry, novel or short story. Manaswita Ghosh’s book Solitude Revisited is a collection of ten short stories depicting the lives of common individuals and the constant struggles of their lives.

One interesting aspect of the book is that the titles of the short stories are also short. The author keeping in mind the short attention span of the readers may have done that so that she could straightaway make a point to the readers. The names of the chapters are one of the names of the characters in the story.

For a short story to make an impact on the minds of the readers, it has to be gripping and also end with a twist or surprise. All the stories in her books have an element of surprise at the end. While some may give you positive vibes, other may not be much to your liking. But that is what life is all about. The unpredictability of it makes it so interesting for all of us.

The language is simple and will be a great help for many people who are looking for simple everyday English. But that does not mean this hampers the flow of writing. Instead one gets engaged and one gets the feeling that they are on the journey with the character itself.

Solitude Revisited will make for a good buy, given it has such a reasonable price. It will make for a good read too!!
