Indian cities now generate eight times more Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Taking this issue up, CREDAI Bengal launched their Clean City Movement. This was done in the august presence of Dr. Najeeb Zackeria, Former President, Credai, Kochi along with Debabrata Majumdar, MMIC, SWM, Debasish Kumar, MMIC, Parks and Squares, Arnab Roy, Principal Secretary, Environment and Fire and Emergency Services and Nandu Belani, President, Credai Bengal.
The Clean City Movement is being implemented in 100 apartments built by Credai Bengal Developers in Kolkata to begin with and gradually execute the model system to all the new complexes made by the Bengal Developers of Credai.
The speakers at the conference threw light on the fact that Municipal Solid Waste has become a major issue with India alone. The objective of the model is to educate, encourage and equip each individual so that the person can become a role model in an eco friendly and hygienic lifestyle.
With such initiatives being taken up, we can all hope that waste management will be getting a new dimension leading to a cleaner and greener city.
