SPANDAN Foundation, Powai has been hosting Durga Puja for people in Mumbai in a grand and unique manner in the form of Powai Sharadotsav – Festival with a Purpose.
Powai Sharadotsav has always been celebrated as a “Festival with a Purpose”. The Festival has been uniquely conceived and crafted with the objective of balancing the socio–cultural vision and the philanthropic mission of Spandan Foundation. This year’s theme is taking up the cause of orphan children through the theme: Amritasya Putra. The theme encourages people visiting the pandal to look and think differently about orphan children and be more sensitive towards their needs. SPANDAN Foundation has resolved to support NGOS that are doing remarkable work in the field of Orphan children through Powai Sharadotsav 2017.
This year the idol is being crafted by an eminent prize winning artisan from Kolkata – Dipankar Paul. The design of the Idol, the pandal and other decorative elements are designed by the club members and executed through artisans from Kolkata and Mumbai.
The inauguration ceremony of Powai Sharadotsav 2017 is scheduled for September 24th with the unveiling of the Theme and the opening of the Main puja Madap and showcasing of the Idol. This will be followed by traditional Ananda Mela – wherein members of Spandan Foundation will participate in a cookery competition hosted by Ruchi Soya. A celebrity chef will judge the competition and announce the winner. After all what is Pujo without Pet Pujo!
From Sashti onwards, there will be regular cultural programmes, games, fun, adda sessions and food at the pandal. And no Durga Puja is complete without food, especially “Maa er Bhog”. All the 5 days of the puja, bhog is distributed at the pandal. An estimated 1000 plus people have the Bhog in the afternoon which is served by the club members.
There is also a plethora of cultural programs that will be presented in the evenings starting from Shasti. Members of the club will present innovative and colorful entertainment programs which are rehearsed and planned for 3-4 months prior to Durga Puja. The line- up for this year include dance drama by kids, Bengali Natok by children, dance program choreographed and performed by the women members of the club and Bengali natok performed by the members. Spandan Foundation also boasts of having its own male Rock Band – Khandawatta that has a very special place in the hearts of all the members.
In its fifth year, the festival will be celebrated at Powai Durga Puja Ground, Opposite TransOcean House, Lake Boulevard, Hiranandani Business Park, Powai. This year the festival will be held between 24th-30thSeptember 2017.
