10 Years Completion of Operation of Sister Nivedita Bridge Announced

Second Vivekananda Bridge Tollway Company Private Limited (SVBTC) recently announced the 10 years of successful completion of operation of the Sister Nivedita Bridge. Present at the conference were Mr. Lala K.K.Roy, Director, Corporate Development & Governance, Mr. Susanta Kumar Mukherjee, Director, Audit and Compliance, Sri Praveen Vasanth Barhanpurkar Chief Operation Officer, Mr. Pradip Kumar Guha Biswas, Technical Adviser and Sri Anjan Roy Chowdhury Chief Financial Officer of Second Vivekananda Bridge Tollway Company Private Limited (SVBTC) who spoke about the flagship project being the first of its kind Public- Private Partnership between the Ministry of Shipping, the Road Transport & Highways- National Highways Authority of India, Government of West Bengal and the SVBTC.

The conference highlighted the pivotal role the structure plays in the upliftment of the Regional Connectivity in Bengal.

The immense structure is 6.1 kms long, which includes the 880 meters long six- lane, caters to more than 28000 vehicles plying across each day. The Nivedita Bridge is a chief link which connects major Industrial Areas (like Kalyani Industrial area, Durgapur Industrial growth area, Uluberia growth centre) and Residential Townships like Rajarhat-New Town Townships, Dankuni Townships, Baishnabghata – Patuli Townships etc.) with the city.

The project has provided a fast and an efficient critical missing Eastern Link of the golden quadrilateral component of the National highways Development Project (NHDP). It has linked the NH System (NH- 2 / NH-6) on the western bank to the NH system (NH-34 / NH-35) on the eastern bank leading to North Bengal, North eastern states and countries like Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh.

The landmarks achieved by the SVBTC project include it being the first ever Bridge Project, costing over 650 crores INR, to have been completed in thirty nine months. The first ever use of six lane (29M wide) precast segments weighing 130-155 ton and their erection.
