The 19th National conference on Pulmonary Diseases (NAPCON 2017) took place at Science City Kolkata in the august presence of Dr A. G. Ghoshal, Dr Raja Dhar, Dr Arunava Datta Chaudhury, Dr Indranil Haldar, Dr Anirban Sarkar and others.
This was organized by Association of Chest Physicians, West Bengal in association with Indian Chest Society and National College of Chest Physicians (India).
Speaking at the occasion, Dr A G Ghoshal said “There is a growth in respiratory diseases in India. This is not only because of pollution but also due to the rise in indoor and outdoor pollution. This has led to a growth in patients with such issues. Vehicles, Industrial Pollution, Smoking and Construction sites pollution are the four main categories which cause air pollution leading to respiratory diseases”.
Dr Arunava Datta Chaudhury highlighted on the fact that the masks readily available in the market do not stop polluted air from entering your lungs. There is a special mask available for the purpose. However that is costly. He suggested an economic way however. A wet Gamcha can be placed over the nose which can be helpful in stopping polluted air from entering the airways.
Dr Ghoshal and the other doctors unveiled the Resolution Against Pollution hoarding at the event. The conference continued till 19th November.
