Video: Comic Strips, Animation and Video Clips in Contemporary Cinema

Comic strips, animation and video clips in contemporary cinema was the topic of the seminar held at Bangla Akademi Sabhaghar on the sixth day of 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival.

The speakers present at the seminar were editor Arghya Kamal Mitra and cinematographer Premendu Bikash Chaki. The session was moderated by Madhuja Mukherjee, Professor of Film Studies in Jadavpur University.

Prof Mukherjee began the discussion by stating that films made for the big screen now has ample use of animation. Examples of this can be given by stating names like Hum Tum and Jagga Jasoos in Bollywood.


Arghya Kamal Mitra highlighted on the fact that cinema is no longer a unilateral medium. It has come a long way and has incorporated a wide array of visual experience.

The three guests talked at length about the film Bahubaali’s inspirations, Chandamama comic books and how the magic of cinema has reached a huge level.

The session ended with a open question answer session with the assembled audience.
