Video: Seminar on Ghosts and Detectives in Cinema

Ghosts and Detectives in Cinema were discussed by directors Anindya Chattopadhyay, Shekhar Das at an event held at the 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival. The event was moderated by Shankarlal Bhattacharjee.

The speakers threw light on the fact that despite having a rich culture and tradition of great ghost stories, not many films have been made in this genre by the Indian directors. However when one watches the international films, they have a rich tradition of making ghost films.

Shekhar Das pointed out that the detective films do not lack that punch as most of them are based on novels. The audience are already aware of the outcome and they just go to see how the story has been made in a film. This was not the scene in early days as then films were made on original ideas and there was a mystery for the audience.

The speakers highlighted on many great international and national works and wished that new directors will work on these two genres in innovative manners.
