The Kolkata Mary Ward Social Centre (KMWSC) along with Darjeeling Mary ward Social Centre (DMWSC) organized an International Anti-Human Trafficking Conference. The two day conference coincided with the 175th year celebration of the Loreto Congregation in India.
Some of the dignitaries gracing the event were Goutam De, Bruce Bucknell, British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, Ananya Chakraborti, Chairperson, West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Sr Judith Nekasa, Sanjay Budhia, Archbishop Thomas D’Souza Archdiocese of Calcutta, Flavia Agnes and others.
Fourteen countries participated in this event. Survivors of human trafficking from the United States, India and Bangladesh also shared their experiences at the event.
The main aim of this two day event is to foster inter-disciplinary collaboration when fighting issues like human trafficking. Fifty four speakers addressed myriad issues like trends in human trafficking to safety of young children and women and so on.
With the rise in human trafficking all over the globe, initiatives of this kind will help in coming up with ways to stop this heinous crime.
