The 42nd International Kolkata Book fair 2018 will begin on 31st January 2018 and continue till 11th February, 2018. This was announced at a press conference which was attended by Tridib Chatterjee, Damien Syed, Hon’ble Consul General of France in Kolkata, Sujata Sen, Director, Kolkata Literature Festival, Sudangshu Deb and others.

The fair will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Soumitra Chatterjee is likely to be presented with the Legion of Honour on the inaugural day.

The book fair will take place at Central Park Mela Ground. Since renovations are being done at The Milan Mela Complex, hence the shift in venue of this book fair.

Since the space is a little less than it was at The Milan Mela Complex, there will be slightly less stalls at the book fair this time. However the good connectivity to the different parts of the city from this area will ensure that book lovers can go to the fair easily. Talks are on for running a special bus from Ultodanga to Karunamoyee.

France will be the focal country this year again. This is the third time that the country has become the focal country at this fair. The French Embassy is also organizing the Bonjour India Festival to mark the 70th year of the Indo-France diplomatic relationship. The festival will begin at Jaipur and will conclude at Kolkata book fair.

The 5th Kolkata Literature Festival (KLF) will take place from 8th to 10th February.

The 42nd International Kolkata Book Fair will remain open on all days from 12 noon to 8 pm.
