Video: 15th Edition of Vodafone Odeon Theatre Festival
In the august presence of eminent celebrities like Bratya Basu, Debshankar Haldar, Arvinder Singh Sachdev, Business Head, Kolkata and Rest of Bengal, the 15th edition of Vodafone Odeon Theatre Festival was announced.
Initiated in 2001, the festival aims at highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Bengal. Some of the popular Bengali and Hindi plays that will be staged in this year’s theatre festival are Gang, 21 Grams, Mumbai Nights, Mulya and Main aur Tum.
Eminent personalities like Samrat Ghatak, Goutam Haldar, Sharman Joshi, Bratya Basu, Rajat Ganguly and others will be performing in the different Hindi and Bengali plays that will be staged during the festival.
To encourage theatre among the young generation and also nurture fresh talent, the festival extended the platform to the young theatre enthusiasts of Kolkata. The festival saw the performance of 20 colleges and 20 renowned theatre groups across the city competing in different segments. Soumitra Chatterjee, Bratya Basu, Debshankar Haldar, Anirban Bhattacharya and others mentored these young talents.
The top four winners will perform at Minerva Theatre and will be felicitated by the celebrities on 24th and 25th of February. The winning colleges were Vidyasagar College, Moulana Azad College, Sarojini Naidu College and Vivekananda College. The selected theatre groups were Frankly Speaking, Naihati Spartan, Repertory, Bawandule and Rabindranagar Natya Youth.
With this initiative by Vodafone, theatre enthusiasts will get a much needed boost to pursue with zeal their pursuit of this medium of art.
