Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- Tell us something about the story of Bidai Byomkesh?

Debaloy Bhattacharya- This is a story which has been developed by me. The roots of the story are in the story developed by Sharadindu Bandopadhyay. Byomkesh Baksi is now in his eighties. Whether we are bidding a final adieu to the legendary detective or not is what the audience will have to wait and watch in the film.

The looks as revealed in the social media have been gaining quite attention from the audience. What did you keep in mind while doing the look of the characters in the film?

Debaloy Bhattacharya- Since Byomkesh is in his eighties, we have worked accordingly on the look of Abir in the film. Abir will be seen also in the role of grandson of Byomkesh and his look is different then. Sohini will be seen as Satyabati and also as the girlfriend of Byomkesh’s grandson. Satyabati and Ajit are no longer alive but they will be there in the film. Byomkesh cannot be made without them.

Where did you shoot the film?

Debaloy Bhattacharya- We did the shooting in and around Kolkata. We have shot the film is some weird locations like a dump yard, a factory and so on.

Since we will be seeing an aged Byomkesh in this film, how do you think will the audience react?

Debaloy Bhattacharya- Byomkesh is never going to be boring for anyone. This is the reason why it has been made into television serials, films numerous times. Even the audience loves watching Byomkesh. Now Sharadindu Babu is not alive. And I don’t have the guts to tamper with the stories. So in a small way, I have tried to do something new with Byomkesh. He may have aged but he is still the Byomkesh whom we all love.

Since Byomkesh’s grandson is in the film, can the audience expect that he will be carrying on with the family legacy?

Debaloy Bhattacharya- I haven’t as yet planned for a sequel or anything. Everything will depend on how the audience reacts to this version of Byomkesh.

The film is eyeing for release in July. Wishing Debaloy all the best for his endeavour!!
