Video: Interview of Actress Jaya Ahsan
Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan is one busy bee. With a number of films in Bengal and Bangladesh, she is super busy. The actress also turned producer recently. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent in a chat with the talented actress!! Excerpts..
Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- You are super busy with so many projects…
Jaya Ahsan- Yes Indeed!! I have never felt that I am not at home whenever I am in Kolkata. The city has always been warm and welcoming. This is home away from home. I have a number of films on the floors in Kolkata. I have also turned producer with a Bangladeshi film titled Devi directed by Maksud Hosein. I wish that I can release this film here in future. Let’s see what happens.
Do you have any plans of producing a film here?
Jaya Ahsan- Maybe in the future but not at the moment!! I want to learn the nuances of acting first here and then maybe I can produce a film.
Do you find any differences in the working style in Bengal and Bangladesh?
Jaya Ahsan- Technically there is no such difference between the working styles in both sides of the border. Good films are being made in Bangladesh also. I have worked with many directors here and also in Bangladesh. I guess the directors with whom I have worked with will be able to shed more light on this. The people are the same on both sides of the border. They speak the same language, have the same culture. A thin line of difference is there. Though that is not much to look at!!
After Aborto, you took a break before actually returning to films again. Why was that?
Jaya Ahsan- That was simply because I have never wanted to run. I have always wanted to take it easy. After Aborto, the role I was getting was getting stereotyped. Hence I took a long break and then when I was offered roles by Kaushik Ganguly, Srijit Mukherji I returned to the big screen again.
How has the working experience being so far, since you have worked with nearly all the top directors in the city?
Jaya Ahsan- I have worked with all the big directors and I am blessed that I got such chances. However I have no problems in working with young and new directors. They take up challenges and give you equally challenging roles. Working with different director help you to enrich yourselves!!
You have worked with Arindam Sil, Srijit Mukherji, Kaushik Ganguly and other directors. How has the working experience being so far?
Jaya Ahsan- Different directors have different techniques of work. Working with Kaushik Ganguly has always a detoxifying effect on my mind. Srijit on the other hand is very methodical and conducts workshops before the acting begins. As far as Arindam da is concerned, he is an actor himself and understands his actors well. After giving shots for the film, I used to look at him and make eye contact. He used to understand that and give me the hint that the shot was fine.
Which is your favourite film from the ones that you have acted in?
Jaya Ahsan- Aborto is my first film and hence it has a special place in my heart. Rajkahini is also special because this is a different character that I got to play. And Bishorjon was special for obvious reasons.
Now I am working in a film directed by Birsa Dasgupta and also in Shiboprosad Mukherjee-Nandita Roy’s Kontho and I love it!! This year I will be busy working on the projects in Bengal.
Wishing the feisty actress all the best!!
