Bengal Mango Utsav 2018 Inaugurated; 100 Varieties of Mangoes Available at Festival



Bengal Mango Utsav 2018 organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata was inaugurated by Janab Abdur Rezzak Mollah, Hon’ble Minister for Food Processing Industries &, Horticulture. Government of West Bengal, Bratya Basu, Hon’ble Minister for Information Technology & Electronics, Government of West Bengal, Sabyasachi Dutta, Mayor, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Nandini Chakravorty, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, & Food Processing Industries, Government of West Bengal, Indranil Sen and others.


Mangoes from West Bengal have found space many countries and government is ready to provide all necessary supports to the farmers. The state government has initiated talks to get markets in United Kingdom, Italy, France and others with the best of mangoes that are produced in West Bengal.


West Bengal has produced nearly 9 metric ton mangoes in 2018 which is a record production for the state. Bratya Basu also mentioned that due to government support and various policies, farmers are getting better price and market.

Sabyasachi Dutta informed that alfanso variety is now available in Birbhum district and soon it will have its own market in India.


West Bengal produces 400 variety of mangoes out of which 100 varieties are available in Bengal Mango Utsav.

The prices of the mangoes at the festival are affordable at the mango festival and the festival will continue till 10th June at New Town Mela Ground.
