This is the Pride Month and Oxford Bookstore and AKLF 10/10 is celebrating those who have not let social, legal and personal prejudices get them down, through a discussion of the stories, movies and books that have shaped their imaginations and helped them keep the fight alive.
A lively discussion on this issue was organized at Oxford Bookstore which saw the presence of journalist-writer Sandip Roy, Koyel Ghosh, Suman Airish Barik, first transgender lawyer of India Megh and Kaustuv Dasgupta.
Speaking at the event, Sandip Roy said “The way the LGBT community or transgender have been portrayed in films and books shows that they are typecast. The stereotypical ideas of the makers come into play and the people of this community are limited to cliché roles”.
Megh highlighted on the issue that only the sad part of their lives are heightened and shown in films. Their achievements or their happiness are not given much importance.
The assembled audience interacted with the speakers and threw light on their thoughts and ideas on this topical issue.
