Gariahat Chess Club Under Gariahat Flyover Gets a New Look



Gariahat Chess Club under Gariahat flyover got a brand new look recently. Initiated by Kolkata Police and supported by P.C. Chandra Jewellers, the club shall be a hangout for chess lovers. The flag off ceremony took place in the presence of Shri Rajeev Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata Police, Grandmaster Shri Dibyendu Barua and Mr. Uday Kumar Chandra, Managing Director, P.C. Chandra Jewellers.

Kalyan Mukhopadhyay, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Kolkata Police, Kalyan Bandopadhyay, Chairman, HRBC, Sumit Das Gupta, Officer in Charge, Gariahat Police Station and Sandip Maharaj, Ramkrishna Seva Pratisthan was also present to grace this auspicious moment.

The Gariahat Chess Club is open to all. Players can come and play as masters and beginners as per their choice.


This new initiative is aimed at promoting the game of chess. The future plans may include coaching classes as well. Initiated by Kolkata Police and supported by P.C. Chandra Jewellers, this initiative is a step towards city beautification. PC Chandra Jewellers is committed towards the social and environmental development of the city as they have already done with the PC Chandra Gardens which has been built on the heap of city’s waste.
